Flies are passive flying mobs.
Spawning
Natural generation
Flies spawn on grass blocks at light levels of 9 or more with at least 2 block space above. They often spawn in groups of 1–4.
Drops
Flies only drop 1–3 experience when killed by a player or tamed wolf. Otherwise, they drop nothing.
Behavior
Flies wander and fly around aimlessly. They tend to fly around for a period of time before falling to the ground. They can be heard buzzing occasionally. Flies will fly away from mobs and the player when approached.
Flies will sometimes follow the player if they're holding rotten flesh. Like other insects, flies can scale vertically up blocks and trigger pressure plates directly beneath them. They’re also small enough to suffocate when on soul sand.
